Ambassador Ukraine for Indonesia Vasyl Hamianin asks Indonesia dare to make a firm statement to Russia to stop the invasion of Ukraine.
“We really want this proud nation [Indonesia] stand up and say ‘Russia stop aggression’,” Hamianin told CNNIndonesia.com, Wednesday (2/3).
Hamianin said the current situation in Ukraine is not much different from Indonesia when it was under colonial rule.
He emphasized that Ukraine, like Indonesia, used to expect countries around the world to stand together to help fight the invaders.
“You [Indonesia] feel how other countries are silent when fighting for freedom and independence. That’s how we feel now. If we [Ukraina] alone would be sad,” he said.
Furthermore, he said that the request was not only addressed to Indonesia, but also to all countries that have not yet opened their voices to provide support to Ukraine.
According to him, if a country has not raised its voice regarding this invasion, it is tantamount to providing ‘oxygen’ to Russia to continue its actions.
“Now we are fighting bravely in every way but if we feel there is support and help both moral and material, we will be able to fight full and even braver [dibandingkan sebelumnya] because we feel we have friends. The feeling that we are not alone. It is very important to feel that you are not alone,” said Hamianin.
It is known, since Thursday (24/2) last week, Russian troops entered Ukraine and launched attacks on a number of cities, including the Ukrainian capital, Kiev. At least, more than 2,000 people died as a result of the attack, which has now entered its eighth day.
Russia and Ukraine held talks on Monday (28/2) but failed to reach an agreement. Recently, the two countries agreed to hold a second round of dialogue today, Thursday (3/3).
