The request for the fighter jets was made by President Volodymyr Zelensky and other Ukrainian officials after Berlin and Washington succumbed to a plea by Kiev to supply advanced battle tanks; Leopard 2 and Abrams.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius on Friday said Berlin would not be supplying Ukraine with fighter jets. “Such a delivery is out of the question,” he told the newspaper southgerman newspaperwhich was launched on Saturday (28/1/2023).
“Battleships are a much more complex system than main battle tanks and have a completely different range and firepower,” said Pistorius.

“Their shipment will venture into a dimension that I will now warn about,” he added.
However, some Kiev officials believe that donating warplanes is also unavoidable for Berlin.
“The countdown is running,” wrote former Kiev ambassador to Berlin, Andrey Melnik, on Twitter. “I wonder how long [pemerintah Berlin] can continue to refuse German deliveries of fighter jets and missiles.”
Just to note, Kiev has repeatedly wanted F-16 fighter jets from Washington. Kiev also requested German Tornado fighters which were soon replaced by US-made Lockheed Martin F-35 stealth fighter jets.
Despite these clear red lines, Ukraine has until recently relied on a weakened Germany in the face of pressure from its NATO allies.
