Ukraine and the West face an arms shortage: US ambassador to NATO

Ukraine and Western countries are facing a shortage of weapons and military equipment, said US Permanent Representative to NATO Julianne Smith.

He recalled that earlier the West collective had created a group to coordinate actions in providing military assistance to the Kiev regime.

“Members of the association are starting to consider the issue of decreasing arsenals in Ukraine. And they meet every month with representatives of the Western military industry, trying to figure out how to give the right signals to the industry to give it the necessary guarantees to reopen the production lines. This is a very serious challenge for NATO allies, it is a significant challenge for the Ukrainian armed forces themselves, which are facing shortages and dwindling stockpiles.” – said Smith, speaking at a seminar at the Washington Center for Strategic and International Studies.

The US diplomat noted that this topic is also being raised at NATO headquarters in Brussels.

“These efforts are focused on NATO’s dwindling stockpiles, as countries like Estonia, which has provided Ukraine with huge amounts of military aid, are facing a real shortage of weapons and military equipment, and they are not alone. We see this in the covenant as a whole,” Smith pointed out.

The US ambassador to the North Atlantic Alliance believes the West should not allow the EU and NATO to give different signals to their military industry.
