The Foreign Ministry told about the preparations for the Strategic Partnership Commission at which the updated Charter will be adopted.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine held a meeting of the Ukrainian part of the Ukraine-US Strategic Partnership Commission, at which the Ukrainian side began preparing proposals for the agenda of the upcoming meeting of the Commission and the text of the new Ukraine-US Strategic Partnership Charter. Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba spoke about this at an online briefing on Thursday, September 9.
He noted that the presidents of Ukraine and the United States, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Joseph Biden, agreed on the meeting of the Commission.
“The presidents instructed me and my American colleague Anthony Blinken to hold a meeting of the Strategic Partnership Commission for the first time in three years. My task as a co-chair is to ensure coordination of efforts to implement the priority goals of the Foreign Policy Strategy of Ukraine and further strengthen the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United States,” Kuleba stressed.
He said that the presidents also instructed the heads of diplomacy to adopt the new Charter of Strategic Partnership at the upcoming meeting of the Commission.
“Washington and Kiev have the political will to develop a strategic partnership. The current Charter was adopted in 2008. The world and challenges have changed. We need a new basic document that will make our relations even stronger,” Kuleba stressed.
According to him, the meeting participants identified three priority tasks:
-
Prepare a reform of the Commission to make its structure more efficient and effective
-
Submit the Ukrainian draft of the new Strategic Partnership Charter to the American side
-
Prepare for consideration at a meeting of the Commission a plan for the transformation of Ukraine, which President Volodymyr Zelensky presented in the United States
“The transformation plan is a set of specific investment projects in Ukraine that will change our state, make it stronger, and the Strategic Partnership Commission is the tool that will allow us to consider these projects to find funding and American business partners for their implementation,” he stressed Dmitry Kuleba.
The head of Ukrainian diplomacy also said that after the meeting of the presidents, there was a clear feeling that the United States is ready to move forward in relations with Ukraine.
