Ukrainian air defenses shot down 24 of 52 drones in attacks launched by Russia overnight in eight regions of Ukraine, the Air Force announced today.
In a post on the Telegram app, the PA said 25 Shahid drones went down on their own and another three were headed for Russia and Belarus. There are no reports of injuries or serious damage from the attacks.
Ukraine uses electronic warfare as well as mobile teams and anti-aircraft systems to repel frequent Russian drone and missile strikes.
Air-raid sirens sounded several times during the nighttime drone strikes, with residents rushing to shelters in the middle of the night.
In the capital Kyiv, where the alert lasted about four hours, it was the fourth drone attack this week. All drones targeting the city were shot down and no significant damage was reported, Kyiv municipality officials said.
Ukrainian air defenses also shot down Russian drones in central Ukraine’s Poltava, Cherkasy, Kirovkhrad and Dnipropetrovsk provinces, Chernihiv and Sumy provinces in the north, and Mykolayiv province in the south.
Regional officials in Cherkasy province said debris from drones damaged several private homes.
Russian forces also fired five missiles during the attack, Ukraine’s PA said, without elaborating.
