End of voting. This Tuesday, September 27 marks the end of the official election campaign relating to the referendum on annexation imposed on two Ukrainian separatist regions and two territories under Russian occupation. After the close of the voting, there will be a delay for the count. The “provisional results” should be announced by “election commissions” implemented by Moscow in each of these territories, at the earliest Tuesday evening or in the following days.
Parliament vote. Yes the “oui” wins, which there is no doubt in the light of the testimonies denouncing the voting process and the little freedom left to the voters, the Russian parliament will vote on a treaty that formalizes the integration of the four regions into Russian territory. Russian news agencies Tass and Ria Novosti, citing parliamentary sources, reported over the weekend that a bill to that effect could be presented to the Duma on Tuesday evening, before adoption the next day in an extraordinary session.
Duma chairman Vyacheslav Volodin said Friday that he “would support” the integration of Russian-controlled territories into Russia following the referendum. The text will then have to pass before the upper house of Parliament, the Federation Council. A formality that could be completed on Wednesday or Thursday, according to Russian agencies.
