/ world today news/ The Minister of Finance of Ukraine Natalya Yaresko said that the country’s authorities recognize their debt of three billion dollars to Russia, RIA Novosti reported.
Jaresko added that Kiev recognizes this obligation on par with all other European bonds, but would like the debt to be restructured. “The government is very clear (declaring its position): we have enough programs and we will achieve our goal of the obligation to restructure,” Jaresko said during a Swedish-Ukrainian business forum.
Yesterday, the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, said in an interview with the Bloomberg agency, answering a question about the country’s debt to Russia, that it was a “bribe to refuse Yanukovych (the former president of Ukraine – ed.) to sign the Association Agreement with the European Union in Vilnius”.
Later, the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, said that the Kremlin is waiting for clarification on the issue of whether Kiev renounces the continuity of obligations, including financial ones, to Russia in connection with Poroshenko’s statement.
