Ukraine accuses Russia of using 10,000 North Korean troops in war

Zelensky said an undisclosed number of North Korean troops were already in “Ukrainian territory occupied by Russia’s enemies.”

“We know (about) about 10,000 North Korean troops that they are preparing to send to fight against us,” he said, speaking to journalists in Brussels after talks with Union leaders Europeans.

The leader of Ukraine was present at a summit of the leaders of the European Union and a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels and he asked for support for his ‘attack plan’ to end the war against Russia. Zelensky said North Korean troops included “ground troops” and “other tactical personnel”.

“This is the first step towards a big war,” he warned, noting that Iran is also supporting Russia with “drones and missiles.”

Iran has repeatedly denied Zelensky’s accusation. Zelensky accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of ‘relying’ on North Korean troops because he was ‘scared of being displaced’.

Zelensky made a short tour of Western capitals earlier this month including Washington, Paris, Berlin, Rome and London to promote his campaign. Experts have long said that North Korean missiles are being used in Ukraine by Russian forces, which Moscow and Pyongyang deny.

Putin visited Pyongyang in June, where he signed a defense agreement with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Moscow and Pyongyang have been allies since the creation of North Korea after World War II and have grown closer since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.
