UK with new coronary restrictions – implements “Plan B”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson implements “Plan B” and new coronary restrictions for Britain in an attempt to take care of the British health service NHS, which is struggling with bursting capacity.

Among other things, people have been asked to work from home where possible, and the government is allowing for an extended use of corona certificates and is implementing orders for face masks indoors.

– We now have to move to Plan B, Johnson said at the press conference.

No new shutdown

At the same time, the Prime Minister assured that this is not a new shutdown for the British.

The restrictions are now being implemented due to concerns about the new omicron variant, which is expected to be dominant in the UK by the end of December.

“It is becoming increasingly clear that omicron is spreading much faster than the previous delta variant, and it is spreading rapidly all over the world,” Johnson said.

To date, 568 cases of omicron have been detected in the UK, and the British Health Security Agency is concerned that it will dominate within two to four weeks, reports Sky News.

“If the growth rate and doubling time continues at the rate we have seen in the last two weeks, we expect to see that at least 50 percent of Covid-19 cases will be caused by the omicron variant within the next two to four weeks,” they said in a statement. Wednesday.

Home office and bandage order

From Monday, people are asked to work from home as far as possible.

“We understand that this is difficult for people,” Johnson said.

In addition, from Friday, mandatory bandages will be reintroduced indoors in most places, which also applies to cinemas and theater performances.

The exception is whether people eat and drink, exercise or sing, the prime minister confirmed.

Introduces corona certificate

Furthermore, the government introduces requirements for a valid corona certificate at nightclubs and premises where many people meet.

The latter will apply to indoor events with more than 500 people, and outdoor events with more than 4,000 people, as well as all events with more than 10,000 people present.

The corona certificate will be valid if you have received two doses of the corona vaccine, Johnson confirmed, but the advice may change as a third dose is made available to more people.

New quarantine rules

At the same time, Johnson is loosening the quarantine rules in an attempt to reduce the so-called “ping-demi”, where several thousand have received a mobile warning from the British health service NHS to isolate themselves, which led to major problems in staffing British supermarkets.

Instead, people are now required to take daily coronal tests.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister encouraged those who have not taken the coronary vaccine to do so.

When asked about the future chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance that the government believes the omicron variant will spread rapidly in the country, but that the good news is that a third dose of the vaccine “definitely has a certain effect” and is “an incredibly important way to increase immunity. ».

Chris Whitty, the UK Government’s top medical adviser, was also present at the press conference.

– Must be humble

Johnson added that “we must be humble in the face of this virus”, referring to the omicron variant, which was detected in South Africa at the end of November and which has spread to several European countries in recent times.

Health Minister Savid Javid warned in the lower house of parliament just before the press conference that the omicron variant is much more contagious than the delta variant, which dominated the previous wave of infections in the country.

Following the conference, the Minister of Health also confirmed that the proposed restrictions will be considered in parliament next week, which is planned for 14 December.

The new rules will be reconsidered at the beginning of January.

In the last 24 hours, 51,342 people have been diagnosed with the coronavirus in the UK.
