UK Weather Warning: Brace for ‘Blood Rain’ as Storms Approach

Jakarta

A leading weather forecaster, Marco Petagna, has warned Britons to be wary of the arrival of ‘blood rain’ as the storm is heading towards the UK.

“Storm Kathleen is starting to dissipate now but there is low pressure meeting once again to the South and Southwest. This low pressure area will bring more wind and rain to almost all of England,” said Petagna as quoted by Metro.

Storm Pierrick is expected to hit hard and will first bring ‘threatening’ clouds and powerful gales of up to 128km/h to northern France this week. The UK has been asked to prepare for adverse weather conditions in the coming days.

This week is expected to be a grim one, as warnings have been put in place for impending rain in Scotland with up to 7cm expected. Meanwhile, northern and western England could experience an increase in rainfall of 5 cm.

The local meteorological agency also warned that Britons should not be surprised if they see blood rain. Of course, this condition is not in the true sense, but because the low pressure system triggers various conditions that cause rain to be red like blood.

“If you notice your windows looking dirty after rain, it’s likely the result of Saharan dust deposits,” says Petagna.

This happened as dust came from the Sahara desert and was carried by the wind to the country. So when exposed to rainwater, the water that falls will appear red.

This kind of phenomenon occurs when strong winds sweep up sand in the Sahara and other organic sediments, then throw them into the stratosphere, the lowest layer of the Earth’s atmosphere, where they spread to distant locations.
