UK has been one of the emigration destinations of Malayalis for years. Many people have already flown to this country for study and work. While some of the recent government measures have hit back students aiming for part-time work, there are reports that UK prospects are still strong.
The UK has recently recruited many workers from India. Finally, the UK is opening the door for teachers too. Indian maths, science and language teachers are in high demand in the UK, reports The Mint, citing a local media outlet.

The UK government plans to recruit hundreds of teachers for these subjects under the International Relocation Payment (IRP) scheme. It is a scheme to hire teachers on a large salary to fill vacancies in schools in England.
Hundreds of maths, science and language teachers from countries such as India and Nigeria will be brought to the UK this year, and recruitment plans from other countries are planned to expand over the coming years, the Times said. Paul Wightman, general secretary of the UK’s National Association of Head Teachers, told The Times that overseas recruitment was the best way to fill current vacancies.
“We launched a one-year trial in March that will give more than 400 outstanding teachers from around the world the opportunity to teach in our schools. This is one of many initiatives we are implementing to ensure every child has an outstanding teacher,” the Department for Education (DFE) said in a statement.
What is the International Relocation Payment Scheme?
The International Relocation Payment (IRP) will be implemented in the UK on a pilot basis in the academic year 2023 to 2024. This is a scheme that offers jobs in the country to teachers from foreign countries. The scheme will cover all their visa, immigration charges, health charges and relocation expenses.
Countries covered under the scheme
The UK government is looking for maths, science and language teachers from India, Ghana, Singapore, Jamaica, Nigeria, South Africa and Zimbabwe under this scheme. The government has already started the recruitment process for this.
What is the qualification and how much is the salary?
Teachers must have a degree, a recognized teacher training qualification and at least one year of experience. Also, should be proficient in English language. Those who are eligible for a work visa in the UK will have a different salary depending on their job. Whatever the case may be, selected teachers will get a minimum of around Rs 27 lakhs per annum (Rs 2.25 lakhs per month).
UK officials say between 300 and 400 teachers will have the opportunity in the coming academic year. If this move is successful, the project can be extended to other subjects. The move comes amid debate over the UK’s record net migration figures released earlier this week.
