Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, it was up 0.35%.
The best performers of the session were Tui AG (LON:), which rose 14.84% or 76.00 points to trade at 588.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Carnival Corporation (LON:) rose 6.00% (70.00 points) to end at 1,236.00 and BT Group (LON:) rose 4.91% (LON:) to 136.65 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were British American Tobacco Plc (LON:), which fell 8.36% (208.00 points) to trade at 2,279.50. Shell PLC (LON:) fell 1.43% or 36.00 points to end at 2,490.00; Diageo (LON:) fell 1.35% or 38.00 points to end at 2,774.50.
995 stocks rose on the London Stock Exchange, which outnumbered the number of stocks closing down – 632. At the same time, 489 stocks did not rise or fall, which was basically the same.
Shares in British American Tobacco plc (LON:) fell to lows; losing 8.36% or 208.00 points to 2,279.50.
The price of the February options contract on gold futures rose 0.47% (9.50 points) to $2,045.80. For the rest of the futures, the price of WTI crude oil futures contract for January delivery fell by 4.02% (2.91 points), quoted at US$69.41, while the February London Brent crude oil futures contract fell by 3.59% (2.77), and the trading price was US$74.43.
GBP/USD did not rise or fall by 0.07%, with an exchange rate of 1.26; at the same time, EUR/GBP was basically unchanged at 0.00%, with a quote of 0.86.
U.S. dollar index futures fell 0.05% to trade at 103.95.
