UK PM Candidate Debate Stopped After Moderator Fainted!

London

The latest debate event between the two candidates for Prime Minister (PM) English broadcast on local television had to be stopped in the middle of the road on Tuesday (26/7) evening local time. The reason is that the moderator suddenly fainted on the debate stage.

As reported AFPWednesday (27/7/2022), debate between the former Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Rishi Sunak and the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu) Liz Truss was being broadcast live on the TalkTV television channel when suddenly the broadcast was cut off in the middle of the road. The debate was supposed to last an hour.

The moment occurred when Truss, who was in the middle of an argument, suddenly stopped speaking in mid-sentence with a look of shock on her face looking ahead. At the same moment, a loud crashing sound was heard in the broadcast.

“Oh Lord!” shouted a stunned Truzz, before leaving his podium and walking towards where the debate moderators were standing. TalkTV’s political editor, Kate McCann, served as moderator of that evening’s debate.

The newly launched TalkTV television channel last April and co-hosting the debate with The Sun newspaper later released a statement confirming that McCann had fallen unconscious.

“While he is fine, his medical advice is that we should not continue the debate,” TalkTV said in a brief statement.

Another TalkTV host, Ian Collins, who conducted a separate broadcast, said that the candidates continued to conduct question-and-answer sessions in an informal manner or without being recorded on camera with a small audience present.

“So relieved to hear that @KateEMcCann is okay. Very sad that such a good debate has to end,” Truss wrote in a statement via Twitter about an hour after the incident.
