UK: Over 10,000 new infected for third day in a row

The number of new cases of infection exceeded 10,000 on Thursday for the first time since February. On Saturday a week ago, the infection rate was just over 7,700, writes Sky News.

The Delta variant accounts for about 95 percent of all new corona cases in the UK.

The infection caused the country to postpone a planned reopening on June 21 by up to four weeks.

Most new cases occur among younger age groups who have not been vaccinated. Over 80 per cent of the adult population has received the first vaccine dose in the UK, and 59 per cent have been fully vaccinated.
