The country is stepping up measures to combat the spread of the new coronavirus.
After the schools were closed, the British government on Friday March 20 ordered the closure of pubs, restaurants, cinemas, gyms and theaters. It thus reinforces by a notch the measures to combat the spread of the new coronavirus.

“We tell cafes, bars and restaurants to close tonight as soon as they can reasonably be expected and not to open tomorrow”said Prime Minister Boris Johnson at a press conference, adding that he would give the same advice to “night clubs, theaters, cinemas, gyms and leisure centers”. “To be clear, however, they may continue to offer delivery services”, he added.
“Some may of course be tempted to go out tonight and I say to these people, ‘please don’t do this'”said Boris Johnson.
As in France, the vast majority of schools, schools, colleges and high schools, will remain closed “until further notice”, the Prime Minister announced on Wednesday. Part of the 10 million students in the country will nevertheless be welcomed: those of the personnel essential to deal with the crisis, with the children of doctors and nurses on the front line.
The United Kingdom deplores 144 dead and 3,269 people tested positive for Covid-19. But the country is only testing the most serious cases and the authorities have admitted that the real number was probably tens of thousands of people infected.
