UK Imposes Sanctions on Employees of Polar Wolf Colony Where Alexei Navalny Died

The UK has imposed sanctions against employees of the Polar Wolf colony, where Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny died.

Details: Britain has imposed sanctions on six people who head the penal colony where Navalny died. Sanctioned individuals will be subject to an asset freeze and entry ban.

Among the persons subject to sanctions are Vadim Kalinin, the head of the Polar Wolf colony, and his five deputies.

The UK became the first country to impose sanctions in response to Navalny’s death.

Britain also called for the immediate release of Navalny’s body to his family and a full and transparent investigation into his death.

“Today we are introducing sanctions against senior prison officials responsible for his (Navalny) detention in a colony, where he spent the last months of his life. Those responsible for the cruel treatment of Navalny should have no illusions – we will bring them to justice,” said British Foreign Secretary David Cameron.

Let us remember that the European Union also promises to impose sanctions against those involved in Navalny’s death.

US President Joe Biden said that the United States considering additional sanctions against Russia due to the death of Navalny.
