UK Health Secretary: The coronavirus delta variant is 40% more contagious than the alpha variant

The delta variant of the new coronavirus is thought to be 40% more contagious than the alpha variant, British Health Minister Matt Henkock said on Sunday, June 6.

The Minister referred to the Government’s Scientific Advisory Group.

However, people who received both doses of Covid-19 should be equally protected against both variants, the minister said.

In the UK, the alpha option was forced into the quarantine regime in January, but the delta option currently dominates the country.

It has already been reported that the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) has assigned letters of the Greek alphabet to variants of the new coronavirus and recommends that these variants no longer be named in countries where these variants have been discovered, as this can lead to negative emotions.

The British variant of the coronavirus is called the alpha variant, the South African variant is called the beta variant, the Brazilian variant is called the gamma variant, and the Indian variant is called the delta variant.

Hankko acknowledged that the delta option threatened the government’s intention to lift the quarantine regime in England from June 21, and the government was open to changing its plans.

The minister said the government would carefully analyze the data for another week and then make a decision.
