UK Food Prices Rise Amid Talks with Industry Leaders over High Costs and Labor Shortages.

UK food prices have risen steadily over the past year amid talks between Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and industry leaders over high costs and labor shortages in the agricultural sector .

The UK leader met with around 70 businessmen from the food industry to discuss how the European country could improve its production and sale of food.

He also announced that he will offer 45,000 visas to farmers next year to recruit fruit and vegetable pickers from abroad due to claims of labor shortages as a result of Brexit, which limited free movement with the rest of the Old Continent.

According to the BBC, the consumer group “Which?” reported that the price of some products increased up to 25% in April compared to the same month of the previous year. Meanwhile, dairy products, such as cheese, are the ones that experienced the biggest rise.

A study of Britain’s eight largest supermarkets looking at 26,000 products found that food prices had risen by more than 17% in the past year. Supermarkets began to reduce the prices of basic products such as bread and butter.
