UK Company Mykines Flouts Export Restrictions, Sends Banned Goods to Russia

The company sent to Russia, in particular, semiconductors, servers, laptops, computer components, telecommunications network equipment and consumer electronics. The entries list brands from Huawei and H3C to Intel, AMD, Apple and Samsung.

According to customs documents, at least $982 million worth of goods shipped by Mykines are on the banned list for shipments to Russia under UK export restrictions. The sale of these goods in the Russian Federation without the permission of the UK authorities may be a violation of sanctions, even despite the supply through third countries – mainly China.

Mykines operated in Russia before the invasion of Ukraine, but records show that its business in the country took off once the war broke out.

The vast majority of the 10.6 thousand consignments of goods sent to Russia was received by the Moscow company Marsala. It is noted that the company may be closely associated with Merlion, a major distributor of computer technology and electronics in Russia.

One of Marsala’s counterparties is Microcontract, which owns a joint venture with the Engineering Center of Novgorod State University. This center was launched in cooperation with Rostec. He conducts research, including in the field of aviation and unmanned aerial vehicles.

“All businesses registered in the UK are required by law to comply with the sanctions regime against Russia. We take potential violations very seriously, but do not discuss the details of how we apply trade sanctions in specific cases,” – said a representative of the British government.
