Johnson, 56, who was hospitalized with coronavirus in April 2020, was vaccinated at St. Thomas Hospital, located in central London, on a day in which he urged British citizens to do the same and stressed that the roadmap to deconfine the country is “on track,” the BBC reported.
After Austria, Denmark, Italy, Ireland and Norway, among other countries, suspended the application of the vaccine by the British pharmacist and university due to its alleged negative side effects, Johnson said that “what is not safe is to contract the virus”.
Along these lines, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) concluded that AstraZeneca’s drug is “safe and effective.”
The United Kingdom, with more than 126,000 deaths and almost 4.3 million cases, is the European country hardest hit by the pandemic.
Regarding the vaccination plan that launched in December, first with the American vaccine Pfizer / BionTech and since January adding AstraZeneca / Oxford, the United Kingdom – with just over 66 million inhabitants – has already administered some 27.6 million doses .
Of these, 25.7 million people received one dose, representing 38.61% of the population, and almost 1.9 million the two doses, 2.82% of the inhabitants.
On this day, the country reported 101 deaths, compared to 95 yesterday, a figure that now reaches 126,263, while the 4,802 cases in the last 24 hours bring the total to 4,285,684, placing the United Kingdom first among European countries and fifth in the world.
