Lecturer at the Indonesian Islamic University (UII) Yogyakarta, Ahmad Munasif Rafie Pratama (AMRP), has been found in United States of America after having disappeared.
The New York Consulate General has met Ahmad in person. The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs ensured that Ahmad was safe.
“The RI Consul General in NY has met him in person. Currently, AMRP is in the US and Alhamdulillah it is safe,” said the Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens and BHI of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, Friday (24/2).
Judha also confirmed that AMRP had communicated with the family in Indonesia.
“With AMRP found safe and secure and communication between AMRP and the family and UII, the handling of AMRP’s disappearance has been declared complete,” wrote Judha.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Consulate General in New York will continue to monitor AMRP conditions and provide the necessary services and protection.
“AMRP and their families requested private space, and it is important to respect this request. So all kinds of speculation can be stopped,” said Judha.
Ahmad was reported missing after participating in a series of global mobility activities at the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN), Norway, which began on February 5.
He attended the activity with a delegation of four members, including UII Chancellor, Fathul Wahid.
On February 12, the team departed from Norway via Oslo Airport after a week of activities at USN.
Team members last met Ahmad in Norway on 12 February. Meanwhile, Fathul last met on the night before their return.
According to the plan that was conveyed orally, the route for Ahmad’s return home was Oslo-Istanbul-Riyadh-Istanbul-Jakarta.
All team members returned via Turkey on three different flights. Ahmad, who was alone on his flight, did not share details of his flight information with UII colleagues and his wife.
Ahmad sent a final message to his wife on the afternoon of February 12, just before boarding a plane to Istanbul. The message read, “waiting for boarding.”
After that, efforts to contact Ahmad through various online channels were made. However, none of the messages were responded to by Ahmad.
