UGT defends placing families at the center of economic recovery | BE Gijón | Today for Today Gijón

With 18,332 unemployed, Gijón -the largest council in Asturias- has to ensure that the economic growth after the crisis of COVID-19 do not bring with it an increase in the poverty rate, especially among young people, women and those over 45 years of age. UGT considers it necessary to put people at the center of political decisions. That is why from this union they will ask, in the negotiation of the social agreement from Gijón, that the Local Employment Agency be strengthened, that a study is made of the most demanded profiles, that the industry is watched over and that the presentation of projects is encouraged under the European Funds. Gijón also needs large projects stagnant in time to come true. They are referred to Javier Fernández Lanero, general secretary of the UGT in Asturias.

Regarding European funds, Lanero insists on the need for them to create jobs in the region.

From the UGT they do not believe that the transformation that the Arcelor in Gijón it will generate a loss of jobs. However, he warns, the negotiation will be long and they will remain vigilant.
