The context of the current tragedy makes any union movement initiative in an essential sector such as transport and logistics inadequate.
Given the bad situation created by DANA in Valencia and other Autonomous Communities, UGT has decided to suspend the call for a strike in road passenger transport, until normal conditions are restored in the regions which is affected.
FeSMC-UGT has decided to call off the strikes and all planned actions in the road passenger transport sector which was prompted by the demand for recognition of early retirement for professional drivers.
This decision has been made in solidarity with the people affected by Dana in different autonomous communities, with a particular impact on the Valencian Community. Currently, all transportation and logistics facilities must be owned by the citizens and the State. For this reason, it would be irresponsible to hold a strike in the current context.
From FeSMC-UGT we want to express our deepest regret about the devastating tragedy caused by the heavy rains and floods that have devastated different areas of the country. We reiterate our pain for the loss of life, and our concerns about the damage we have caused to homes, infrastructure and equipment. Therefore, we understand that it is our responsibility to come together and support the people who are affected.
Finally, show our sincere recognition to all the workers, the State Security Forces and Agencies, emergency cases, health workers, the Army, as well as volunteers who are in the areas influence makes titanic efforts to improve the situation and try to overcome, as far as possible, social regularity.
