The Frenchman Ugo Humbert, seeded n°3, clearly beat the South African wild card Kevin Anderson (6-2, 6-4) and qualified for the semi-finals of the Newport tournament on Thursday evening, in Newport.
Humbert, 40th in the world at ATP, will face Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, seeded No. 2 in the semi-finals of the Rhode-Icelandic tournament.
In the previous round of the Hall of Fame Open, the French player won against American Steve Johnson (6-4, 6-4).
Kevin Anderson had dominated the Canadian Gabriel Diallo without being worried in the score (6-3, 6-2), and had dismissed the Dutchman Gijs Brouwer (6-3, 7-6 [6]).
