Ugly Duck: A Play about Self-Improvement and Acceptance for Children and Families

The Arbolé Theater in Zaragoza offers this Wednesday, July 26, a morning performance for children and families of the play “ugly duck”, a show that is a metaphor for life and a hymn to self-improvement, since it places special emphasis on self-esteem, as well as respect for differences.

The Teatro Arbolé company returns to recover a classic to tell it on stage: “Ugly Duckling”, a free version of the story “The Ugly Duckling” by Hans Christian Andersen. “Ugly Duck” is for this company “a metaphor for life.” Of the many lessons that can be drawn from this immortal tale, Arbolé emphasizes respect for difference and self-esteem.

The duck, which is born different, is rejected by everyone, by the farm animals and even by its own brothers. Only his mother defends him, and not with much faith. Rejection turns into bullying and bullying ends in mistreatment and failure. The duck finally decides to leave the farm and is thus exposed to the dangers of the open field as a metaphor for life itself. Finally, nature does its part and the ugly duck becomes a beautiful swan after enduring hardships and dangers. Recover self-esteem and recognition is immediate.

In this adaptation, the story of a duckling that is rejected for being different is told, but with a positive message, because perhaps the big difference of this adaptation with respect to the original tale is that it is not his own nature that turns the ugly duck into a beautiful swan, but his own determination to improve himself, to regain faith in himself. All told in a very entertaining way and with some attractive characters made with cushions.

ugly duck” will be represented on Wednesday, July 26 at Teatro Arbolé. The ticket price is €7 at www.teatroarbole.es, also available at the box office one hour before.
