French tennis player Harmony Tan withdrew from the doubles at Wimbledon on Wednesday.
She did so just a few hours after her win over American Serena Williams in the 1st round of singles. She defeated the former world number one in three sets 7:5, 1:6 and 7:6 (7). She justified her decision with a thigh injury, which angered her doubles partner Tamara Korpatschová.
“She told me this in a message in the morning. I’m very sad, disappointed and also angry that I can’t play my first doubles Grand Slam,” Korpatschová did not hide her indignation on the Instagram social network. “It’s really unfair. She invited me to doubles before the tournament, not me. If you don’t dominate after a three-hour match the day before, you can’t play professionally. That’s my opinion,” continued the German tennis player.
On Wednesday, the pair was scheduled to play against Ukrainian Nadia Kičenokova and Romanian Raluca Olaru. Tanová should meet Spain’s Sara Sorribesová Tormová in the second round of singles on Thursday.
