Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Star UFC Jon Jones arrested by police just hours after the Hall of Fame event in Las Vegas, Friday (24/9).
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrested Jones on two counts. First, Jones is suspected of committing domestic violence to the point of injuring, and secondly for damaging a vehicle.
MMA Junkie has confirmed to a police department spokesman after learning of the initial report from ESPN.
Clark County inmate records show Jones is currently in custody and is due to attend his first court hearing on Saturday (25/9) local time.
Jones’ arrest came as a surprise because previously he admitted that he was in the best moment of his career at the UFC when interviewed by the media, including MMA Junkie before the introduction of UFC 165 vs Aleander Gustafson.
In his first press conference ahead of the fight, Jones revealed his training schedule is more consistent than ever ahead of his heavyweight debut in 2022.
“Right now, for the first time in my career I really train consistently. I feel better than ever. Sleep better, eat better, drink [alkohol] less and feel really good,” Jones said.
However, Jones is now languishing in a prodeo home for charges of domestic violence, injuring, and damaging a vehicle.
This is not the first time Jones has been in trouble with the law. In 2012 he avoided jail time for a misdemeanor charge for crashing his Bentley into an electric pole.
Three years later, Jones was involved in a hit-and-run case that caused a pregnant woman to break her arm and result in Jones losing his UFC title. Despite avoiding jail time, Jones got 18 months probation and had to be involved in 72 charity fights.
In March 2020, Jones was again arrested by the police on suspicion of drunk driving and illegal possession of a gun.
According to the officer’s report, there was a pistol under the driver’s seat and spent cartridges in and around the vehicle. There was also an open bottle of alcohol in the car.
