The first time I met Daniel Cormier at training, he invited me to party afterwards. I told him I wasn’t partying and he asked me why. I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, so why would I go partying? He explained to me that he had Muslim friends and that sometimes they accompanied him, that it was normal to go out.
It was in 2012, 10 years ago… I don’t know his friends and I don’t know how they behave, but I know people play on both sides. Sometimes they decide to be Muslims, and sometimes they agree to party and cross over to the other side. For me, not going out is a personal decision, and everyone is free to make their own decisions.
Khabib Nurmagomedov has always resisted the idea of going out clubbing, even when he was invited by friends as close and influential as Daniel Cormier. He bonded in the cage and in training, he didn’t feel the need to go out to strengthen his friendships. A decision which was obviously respected by the former UFC champion, since they remain very close today.
