UFC breaks promise on fighter and Hall of Fame

Wanderlei Silva has been inducted into UFC:s Hall of Fame.

Wanderlei Silva is elected to the UFC: Hall of Fame despite Dana White’s promise

The UFC announced a new name for its Hall of Fame during last night’s UFC 298 broadcast in Anaheim, California.

It is somewhat surprising to see Wanderlei Silva being inducted along with the UFC boss Dana Whites previous comments about him. Brassen Silva has said UFC fighters were practically slaves because of the wages they received. In 2014, the Nevada Athletic Council also suspended Silva for life and fined him $70,000 for evading a random drug test earlier that year.

After that news, White claimed that Silva would never be inducted into the Hall of Fame:

White had the following to say about Silva Fox Sports:

Nobody has ever run from a drug test before. I didn’t see a lifetime ban coming. Nobody will let him fight. He’s in a very serious situation. There’s going to be no Hall of Fame. The guy’s been Pete Rose’d. There’s going to be no Hall of Fame offers.

Despite the comments 10 years ago, things have calmed down and Silva will still be inducted later this year.

Wanderlei Silva (35-14-1 and 1 no contest) has not fought since September 2018. This when he suffered a TKO loss against Quinton ’Rampage’ Jackson at Bellator 216. Silva finished his career in Bellator where he went two fights. Before the loss to Jackson, he lost via decision to Chael Sonnen.

Silva fought in the UFC between 2007 and 2013, where he was 5-7. He also fought single fights in 1999 and 2000 respectively. He made his UFC debut in 2007 against Chuck Liddell and then lost via verdict. In the sejour he had victories against names like Michael Bisping, Keith Jardine, Cung Lee and several others.

Wanderlei Silva is mainly known for his time in Pride. He won the middleweight belt there in 2001 and defended it four times. He then took notable victories against Dan Henderson, Rampage Jackson, Kazushi Sakuraba, Yuki Kondoand Kiyoshi Tamura.
