Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Charles Oliveira successfully defended the lightweight title UFC after winning submission over Dustin Poirier in the third round UFC 269.
Poirier appeared stomping through a hard punch that had made Oliveira stumble although then could get up quickly.
Oliveira then managed to retaliate and managed to injure Poirier in the nose.
With two minutes remaining in the first round, Poirier was able to bring down Oliveira again. But Oliveira’s defense on the mat made Poirier not want to force the match to ground fighting.
The exchange of blows between Oliveira and Poirier continued until the fight in the first round ended.
Entering the second round, Oliveira tried to force a duel on the mat. The match in the second round then took place mostly in ground fighting.
Oliveira was in the top position and had several elbows hit Poirier.
Entering the third round, the fight begins by exchanging blows in a standing position.
In one moment, Oliveira managed to climb onto Poirier’s back and try to release the lock while Poirier was standing. The lockdown succeeded in making Poirier tap out. Oliveira also ended the match with a submission win.
Oliveira also successfully defended the UFC lightweight belt for the first time since he won the title in a duel against Michael Chandler in May.
