After a long wait for fans of mixed martial arts to be able to visit the sports venues again and see their idols up close, this Monday, March 15, the president of the UFC, Dana White, revealed that the 261 event will be able to receive public without any limit in Jacksonville, Florida.
The event, which will feature the rematch between Karum Usman and Jorge Masvidal, will take place at the VyStar Veteran’s Memorial Arena on April 24. Said enclosure has a capacity of 15 thousand attendees and it may be full in all its splendor.
The event will reportedly feature three fights involving three titles; ‘Gamebred’ vs. Usman for the welterweight championship; Valentina Shevchenko vs. Jessica Andrade for the flyweight title and the dispute between Zhang Weili and Rose Namajunas, who will put the strawweight title into play.
Texas did not agree to sell-out
Although White tried to get Texas to allow fans to sell out after Gov. Greg Abbott announced the opening of the state, some mayors were reluctant to rally people in sports venues, so, as has happened since event 258, 260 will be held at the Apex facilities in Enterprise, Nevada.
That said, Florida will be the second state, after Nevada, to host a UFC event since the creation of Fight Island, where various fights were played during 2020 and early 2021.
Security protocols
On the other hand, Dana White has not disclosed security protocols to be implemented for both fighters and fans, because although vaccines have already opened the door for a return to normalcy little by little, there are still daily cases of contagion in the USA.
