UEFA wants to play tournaments in summer, Champions League final to August 29 ‘

UEFA hopes to be able to play the European football tournaments in the summer, if the corona measures allow it. The Champions League final will be held in Istanbul on Saturday 29 August, and the Europa League final battle will be held in Gdansk three days earlier.

The English newspaper The Telegraph and the press agency AP, among others, claim to have documents that outline the plans of the European Football Association. The tournaments have been suspended since March 12 due to the corona crisis.

Next Thursday, UEFA will meet again via a video link with the 55 affiliated national federations about the frozen football calendar and solutions.

UEFA affiliates will have until August 3 to complete their national competitions, subject to security in the respective countries. After that, space would be made on the calendar to finish off the lucrative tails of international football, possibly in a shortened version.

Large number of teams

Only four quarter-finalists are known in the Champions League, not even one in the Europa League. All Dutch clubs have already been eliminated.

Given the large number of teams still in the race, duel camps may be settled in one game to save time. Playing out the tournaments in one neutral location is also suggested to avoid logistical problems.
