It is an open secret that UEFA is currently intensely debating reform of the Champions League. Numerous details have already been revealed in the past few weeks. As has now been announced, UEFA is also planning a CL final in the USA.
As the English “Sun” reports, there will not only be an expansion of the competition with more teams and an adjustment of the group stage. UEFA also wants to internationalize the Champions League more and is therefore considering hosting a final in New York.
“It’s not a problem for the fans”
UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin told the Sun about these plans: “Going from Portugal to Azerbaijan, for example, is almost the same as going to New York. It’s not a problem for the fans ”.
Such a scenario would not be possible until 2025 at the earliest, since all final locations have been assigned beforehand. This year’s final will take place in Istanbul, in 2022 in St. Petersburg. In 2023 it will take place at the Allianz Arena in Munich and in 2024 at Wembley Stadium in London.
