While several Blancos have made it into the UEFA Team of the Year in recent years, this time many of the Spanish champions’ stars missed out – in 2019 there was even no Madrilene. Only Sergio Ramos made it into the best team this time – with Cristiano Ronaldo a former royal is represented.
After over six million votes have been cast in just over a month, the “TOTY” 2020 is certain: The European Football Association announced the eleven names on Wednesday that users were given uefa.com were chosen most frequently. FC Bayern in particular dominates with four players: Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, Alphonso Davies and Robert Lewandowski.
There are also Virgil van Dijk and Thiago Alcantara from Liverpool FC, Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City), as well as Neymar (PSG) and Leo Messi (FC Barcelona).

With “Thanks to all football fans who voted me back into the TOTY” Ramos also thanked him on Twitter. With nine nominations, only Lionel Messi (12) and Cristiano Ronaldo (15) were more often in the team of the year.
