UEFA seeks venue for the 2027 Champions League final

Madrid. The UEFA Executive Committee decided to withdraw the organization of the final of the Men’s Champions League in 2027 from the San Siro Stadium, in the Italian city of Milan, because the municipal institutions did not offer sufficient guarantees for the remodeling works. that the enclosure has to undertake.

“As Milan City Council could not guarantee that the San Siro Stadium and its surroundings would not be affected by the renovation works in the period of the 2027 final, it has been decided not to assign the final to Milan and to reopen the stadium. bidding process to designate a suitable venue, the decision of which is expected in May/June 2025,” UEFA said in a statement after the meeting of its main body.

In addition, the Executive Committee also approved a new women’s football strategy for the period 2024-2030, although “full details will be published in the coming weeks, when it will be officially launched”, while detailing what the distribution of solidarity will be like for the clubs. men not participating in European competitions in the 2024-2027 cycle.

Last year, UEFA approved a significant increase in this amount for this time period, which will see the share allocated to non-participating clubs increase from 4 to 7 percent of the planned €4.4 billion revenue threshold. This translates into 308 million euros, an increase of almost 80 percent compared to the previous cycle, the agency clarified.

The Executive Committee approved this Tuesday the criteria for the distribution of the new amounts, prepared in close collaboration with the European Club Association (ECA) and the European Leagues. UEFA recalled that these funds are reserved for first division clubs that do not compete in the league phases of the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League, and that they are intended to support competitive balance in the main categories of each country, where some Clubs benefit from additional revenue streams thanks to their participation in European competitions.
