UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin Slams Critics in Interview with The Guardian

The president of UEFA, Aleksander Ceferin, does not tolerate his detractors, at least that is what he said about one of his biggest critics in an interview with The Guardian. According to international press reports, the words of the Slovenian sports leader clearly refer to the president of the Romanian Football Association, Razvan Burleanu, who is said to be running for Ceferin’s position.

“There is a clown in one of the member associations who calls the other associations and the media every day to whine about what kind of conspiracy we have made,” said Ceferin. in an interview with The Guardian. – He does all this without revealing any specifics about me or the UEFA management. We learned about his behavior from the member associations, they also just laugh at his actions.

Ceferin has led UEFA since September 2016, for the first time he succeeded Michel Platini, who was banned and resigned from his position in May 2016, and became the first person of the European association. Since then, he has been re-elected twice, first in 2019 and then last year, both times unopposed. His current mandate is for four years, i.e. until 2027.

Previously, the president of the Hungarian Football Association (MLSZ), Sándor Csányi, was Ceferin’s vice-president at UEFA, but he could not be re-elected last year because he became the European vice-president of the international association, FIFA, and could not hold both positions at the same time.
