No Cristiano Ronaldo, Leo Messi or Robert Lewandowski. Three midfielders will compete for UEFA’s footballer of the year award, which will be awarded on 26 August in Istanbul. This is Italian Jorginho winner of the last Champions League with Chelsea and of the European Championship with Italy, of his teammate N’Golo Kanté and the Belgian of Manchester City Kevin De Bruyne. This is the statement from UEFA:
“For the best player award, the three finalists were selected by a jury composed of the 24 coaches of the teams participating in UEFA EURO 2020, the 80 coaches of the teams participating in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League 2020/21. and 55 journalists (one from each UEFA association) selected by the European Sports Media (ESM) group. The coaches and journalists had to select three players, awarding five points to the first, three to the second and one to the third. points for each player until a ranking was established Coaches could not vote for players on their team.
