UEFA Fines Barcelona and Manchester United for Financial Irregularities

The European Football Association (UEFA) fined several clubs on Friday for financial irregularities during the 2022-2023 season, including Barcelona, Spain, and Manchester United, England.
The Club Financial Supervision Committee, which is independent within UEFA, fined United 300,000 euros ($335,000) for failing to meet the conditions for limiting losses incurred by clubs.
In turn, Barcelona, the holder of the Spanish League title, was subjected to a fine of half a million euros, for including profits from sales of intangible assets, which are not considered appropriate income according to the regulations, in order to balance his financial book.
The Financial Fair Play rules, adopted in 2011, allow clubs to report losses of no more than 30 million euros over a three-year period.
Last season was the last in which UEFA adopted these regulations, before easing licensing and sustainability regulations in the next three seasons.
Inter, Milan, Rome (Italy), Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco and Marseille (France) avoided the fines, after meeting the terms of a settlement agreement with the European Union for the game.
The highest fine, amounting to two million euros, was for the Belgian Royal Antwerp and the Turkish Trabzonspor.
