Indeed, in order to catch up and conclude the season before June 30, UEFA told European federations – at Tuesday’s meeting – that European Cup matches could be played on Saturday and Sunday. So, the different national championships could take place during the week. “The exclusive slots of the calendar could be limited, if necessary, or even abandoned, which could potentially lead to the scheduling of national championship matches midweek and UEFA club matches on weekends “, says UEFA in a statement, in words relayed by RMC. A solution that should satisfy many European clubs, with the objective of “Maximize profits by increasing the number of matches and their visibility.” As a reminder, according to Marca, UEFA plans to take part in the Champions League final on Saturday 27 June.
However, if the different European Cups come to end after June 30 (date of expiry of certain player and staff contracts), UEFA is already considering to adapt the qualifying rounds for the 2020-2021 editions of the Champions League and the Europa League.
