UEFA confirmed Sweden’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Belgium, which was abandoned in the second half after shootings in Brussels, would not be replayed.
The two teams drew 1-1 until the match had to be abandoned for security reasons. UEFA has now decided that the half-time score will be “confirmed as final” and each team will be awarded one point.
“Each team is awarded one point and the Group F standings will be updated accordingly,” UEFA said. “Each suspension is deemed to have been served and one yellow card remains valid.

“In taking this decision, the Executive Committee noted that it proved impossible to play the remaining matches on the following day.”
“Both the Royal Belgian Football Association and the Swedish Football Association, considering the situation, explicitly expressed their desire not to play the remaining time of the match and to consider the half-time result (1-1) as the final result.”
The results of this match do not affect Group F qualification because Belgium has mathematically qualified for the UEFA EURO 2024 final tournament (along with Austria) and Sweden has been mathematically eliminated.
“The respective matches do not allow any dates to be used in the upcoming November international window, when the group stage of the competition must be completed, to be followed by the draw for the play-offs and the final draw for the tournament.”
Two Swedish fans lost their lives while another was seriously injured in a terror attack that authorities called an attempt to “target Sweden and Swedish citizens”.
Brussels police shot down the attacker while he was in a cafe in the Schaerbeek neighborhood.
Supporters were asked to remain inside the stadium, which is nearly 5 km (three miles) from the shooting site, until early Tuesday morning because it was considered the “safest place”.
UEFA also confirmed that “no UEFA competitive matches may be played in Israel until further notice” because the country is embroiled in conflict.
The Israel Football Association and its clubs Maccabi Haifa FC and Maccabi Tel-Aviv have been asked to propose alternative venues/stadiums (which must comply with all applicable UEFA regulations) outside Israeli territory to allow their home games to be used as long as possible. because this decision remains in effect.”
Maccabi Haifa was due to play in the Europa League but their match against Villarreal was postponed and rescheduled for 6 December 2023. Meanwhile, Maccabi Tel Aviv will face Zorya Luhansk on 25 November 2023.
