The City secures first place by recovering 3-2 Leipzig.

GROUP E

Mbappé keeps PSG alive: the 98th minute penalty from Luis Enrique’s phenomenon gives the French a 1-1 draw against Newcastle and temporary second place in the group which also includes Milan. The Parisians immediately had the first opportunity, with a series of rebounds that favored Fabian Ruiz, but the former Napoli player sent it high over the crossbar, then it was the former Monaco player, with a heel, who challenged Pope. In the 24th minute, however, the English came through: Almiron’s left-footed shot, Donnarumma saved but left the ball near Isak, who made no mistake and made it 1-0. In the second half, Mbappé missed two sensational chances only in front of the visiting goalkeeper, then he put the team on his shoulders and in the 98th minute he scored PSG’s most important goal of the season: penalty for a handball by Livramento and Marciniak awarded the shot from eleven metres. The Parisian phenomenon made no mistakes, scoring the 1-1 in the final. There would also have been time for the 2-1 (which would have eliminated the Rossoneri), but Barcola’s header went over. Now, Luis Enrique’s team is second -3 behind Dortmund and +2 over Newcastle and Milan: by winning at the Germans’ home they would actually close the group at the top, while the Magpies have to beat the Rossoneri and hope that at Signal Iduna Park they end up with a lack of success for the Transalpines.

GROUP F

Simeone’s Atletico gives a great gift to Lazio: by beating Feyenoord 3-1, they give the Biancocelesti the round of 16. De Kuip’s game broke the deadlock already in the 14th minute with an incredible own goal from Geertruida, who all alone deflected a harmless cross into his goal. The Dutch persist but in the 57th minute Hermoso finds a rainbow with his right foot which ends up at the far post and makes it 2-0. In the final, Wieffer tries to reopen the games for the home team, but the second own goal of the day, that of Gimenez from a free kick taken by Molina, definitively closes the games. Simeone is in the round of 16 together with Lazio, who by winning at the Wanda Metropolitano could even finish in first place in the group, while a draw will be enough for the Colchoneros. However, Feyenoord’s future is already defined: they will play in the Europa League.

G GROUP

With a lot of suffering and a comeback, City beat Leipzig 3-2, officially securing first place. Surprisingly, the Germans took the lead at the Etihad: directly from goalkeeper Blaswich’s clearance, Openda received and beat Ederson to make it 1-0 for the visitors. The Belgian, however, is not satisfied and in the 33rd minute doubles his lead with a solo action closed with a right-footed shot to the near post. In the 54th minute, the usual Haaland closes the gap for the reigning European champions by taking advantage of an assist from Foden, who then finds the equalizer with a precise left-footed shot into the corner, making it 2-2. The inertia seems to be in favor of the hosts, but Leipzig scares the English and sees the possible 3-2 canceled out. However, it was Guardiola’s team that found the decisive goal: Julian Alvarez received from Foden and scored with a left foot from the center of the area, giving his team the victory. Instead, Young Boys goes to the Europa League, beating Red Star 2-0: Nedeljkovic’s own goal in the 8th minute and Blum’s goal in the 29th minute decide. Swiss at +3 on the Serbs with the advantage of direct comparisons: the Belgrade team is out of everything.

GROUP H

Shakhtar keeps their dream of qualifying for the Champions League round of 16 alive: the 1-0 win against Antwerp is fundamental, as they are already out of everything and still without points. The home team (even if they were playing in Hamburg) took the lead in the 12th minute: Matviyenko lashed out at the free kick taken by Zubkov and headed past Butez. The Belgians try to respond with Balikwisha’s right-footed shot which doesn’t worry Riznyk. Before the break, the Ukrainians came close to scoring again with Newerton’s deflection blocked by the visiting goalkeeper and Sudakov’s headed rebound which went high. In the second half, Butez again performs a miracle on Azarov’s left foot, with the ball also ending up on the crossbar. In the 62nd minute, same scenario: Stepanenko’s left foot and decisive save by the Belgian goalkeeper, with the ball hitting the upright again. The match remains in question and so Riznyk needs to make a save on Alderweireld in injury time to preserve the 1-0. Very important result, given that it will allow Shakhtar to play everything at the Dragão against Porto on the last day of the group stage. Barcelona flies to the round of 16 of the Champions League, but has to suffer to get the better of Porto, who loses 2-1 but is still in the running. The Portuguese scare Montjuic midway through the first half, but Taremi’s tap-in arrives in an irregular position and so the potential 0-1 is cancelled. The visitors’ lead was postponed for a few minutes because in the 30th minute Pepê scored after Taremi’s shot was blocked by ter Stegen. In the 32nd minute, however, the equalizer arrived, and it was a pearl from Cancelo, who broke through on the left and put it to the far post with his right foot. The Catalans overturned it in the 57th minute thanks to Joao Felix, who received an assist from his ex-Inter and Juventus compatriot and made it 2-1. Porto is now called upon to obtain at least a draw at home to move from second place thanks to the advantage in the direct clashes with Shakhtar.
