UEFA announces changes to the women’s Champions League

As it did with the men’s competition, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced that the Champions League feminine will undergo important modifications starting with the 2025-2026 season.

These changes imply that 18 and not 16 teams will participate from the group stage, where six games will be played against six different clubs.

After the group stage, the best four will qualify directly for the playoffs, while the fifth to twelfth position will compete in a playoff with round-trip duels, while the teams from 13 to 18 will be directly eliminated.

“The objective of increasing competitiveness and maximizing participation, while taking into account the limitations of the calendar and the burden it places on the players,” explained the UEFA it’s a statement.

The general director of women’s football of the UEFANadine Kessler, considered that these modifications will allow greater competition, not only at the European level, but also at the national level with greater investment.
