Thiruvananthapuram – Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the UDF MPs from Kerala were not ready to protest against the central government’s policies which are putting Kerala in crisis. The Chief Minister was speaking during the emergency resolution debate on Kerala’s financial situation. The opposition walked out of the assembly protesting the government’s reply. The Chief Minister said that the MPs from Kerala had decided to submit a joint petition against the Centre’s neglect. All the parties responded positively in the meeting of MPs. However, the UDF MPs were not ready to sign the petition or go together. UDF could have pointed out if there was any mistake in the preparation of the petition. The Chief Minister also alleged that the UDF has taken the stand that it is not ready to sign.
In his reply speech, Finance Minister KN Balagopal said that despite having 18 UDF MPs, nothing is being done for the state. It was agreed in the meeting of MPs that they can fight against the central policy together. This is recorded in the minutes of the meeting. Union Ministers have been seen together before on the common problems of Kerala. Union Ministers were seen together on the issue of Western Ghats. The finance minister also asked if they are ready to hold a joint dharna against the central policy. Central policy is the reason for the financial crisis of the state. The finance minister said that if the UDF stops to flow honey and milk to the Centre, the people will recognize it.
Leader of the Opposition VD Satheesan said that the Finance Minister is continuously insulting the UDF MPs. “It is not right to criticize the speeches given by MPs in Parliament. Members of Parliament in Kerala have been continuously suspended for speaking against central policy. The government has not said that it will call a meeting of MPs and submit a petition to the Centre. Ilamaram Karim MP asked UDF MPs to sign a paper. The UDF MPs said they would sign if the government asked. When the Chief Minister or the Finance Minister goes to Delhi, an LDF MP is taken along. The government usually calls a meeting of MPs before the Parliament session. “Only one meeting has been called in the past,” Satheesan pointed out.
“Whatever you say, the UDF MPs will win the Lok Sabha elections with a majority of over one lakh. This is the first time that MPs are being abused in the House. UDF will publish the issues raised by MPs for Kerala in the Lok Sabha. The Finance Minister did not say anything about the tax revenue raised by the opposition. “The tax administration department is a failure,” said the leader of the opposition.
