UdeG strengthens academic and cultural ties with China

Last Thursday, October 31, the University of Guadalajara (UdeG) welcomed a delegation from the province of Guizhou, People’s Republic of China, in a meeting that seeks to strengthen academic and cultural ties between both institutions.

During the event, university authorities and representatives of the Chinese delegation explored various opportunities for collaboration in areas such as research, student and faculty exchange, and cultural projects.

The Executive Vice Rector of this House of Study, Dr. Héctor Raúl Solís Gadea, spoke of the importance of this visit to consolidate a collaboration agreement through which to promote academic mobility.

The Internationalization Coordinatorteacher Valeria Padilla Navarro, shared information about the University Network, its internationalization actions and the history of collaboration with China. Master Edwin Bello, General Director of the Proulex Comlex Corporate System and Mrs. Shushua Wei, Director of the Confucius Institute, highlighted the important academic and cultural collaborations carried out through the Confucius Institute, with which knowledge of Chinese culture in Jalisco is actively promoted.

Shi Yubao, member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China in Guizhou, and who led the delegation, highlighted Guizhou’s interest in establishing links with prestigious higher education institutions in Mexico, such as the UdeG.

Participating in the meeting, on behalf of the government of Jalisco, was Juan Alberto Varela Márquez, in charge of the Office of the Federal Liaison and International Affairs Unit, who highlighted the recent signing of a Letter of Intent regarding cooperation between the State of Jalisco and Guizhou Province.

The province has impressive landscapes, such as Karst mountains, rivers, waterfalls and forests; Sustainable development, environmental protection and poverty reduction being a priority for the province.

Its cultural diversity also stands out, which is home to numerous ethnic minorities.
