UCR establishes mandatory vaccination against COVID-19 for all its students • University Weekly

The complete vaccination schedule will be a requirement for the use of university facilities in person from next March 28, when the 2022 school year begins.

The Rectory of the University of Costa Rica (UCR) resolved this Friday, March 18, to establish mandatory vaccination against COVID-19 for all its students.

In accordance with resolution R-50-2022, the complete vaccination schedule will be a requirement that students will have to meet in order to use the university facilities in person starting next March 28, when the school year begins.

Those people who have some medical contraindication to receive the vaccine and those who attend the vaccination centers located on the university campus to administer the vaccine are excepted.

To verify the respective vaccination, students must complete a sworn statement with their immunization information on the virtual enrollment platform (Ematricula).

In addition, the academic units and the competent university offices will work on information and awareness campaigns with the student population that has not been vaccinated and will try to exhaust the channels of dialogue before applying the pertinent measures, according to guidelines that the Legal Office will issue for this purpose. .

According to the resolution, the Rectory consulted the National Vaccination and Epidemiology Commission (CNVE) about the possibility of establishing the verification of vaccines against COVID-19 for the development of face-to-face academic activities at the University, through official letter R-8533-2021 on November 23, 2021.

On December 14, 2021, through official letter CNVE-0987-2021, the National Commission for Vaccination and Epidemiology indicated that establishing the verification of vaccination against covid-19 is the responsibility of the university administration.

Since the previous year, vaccination has been mandatory for officials of the University of Costa Rica.
