With more than five years of experience in the field of environmental engineering, Luisa Fernanda Buitrago Gómez has achieved a new achievement in her career: obtaining a full scholarship at the Istanbul University to pursue a Master’s Degree in Water Treatment. This step represents a key opportunity in his professional development, an advance driven by the solid training he received at the UCM, which has opened numerous doors for him throughout his career.
Throughout her career, Luisa Fernanda has held roles as Environmental Analyst and Integrated Management Systems Analyst. Currently, she works as Manager of Environmental Quality and Occupational Health and Safety at the company Gatria, where he has demonstrated a notable commitment to excellence. This new academic process comes at a crucial time for his career, and further highlights his dedication and capacity for growth.
The search for new opportunities began when he decided to specialize in the field of water treatment, with the aim of complementing his professional profile and covering more areas within environmental engineering. To do this, he began extensive research on international programs and scholarships. Her application included a detailed academic history, projects completed during her university years, letters of recommendation, and a solid letter of interest in which she expressed her desire to become an expert in water treatment.
Vision of training and future
“My professional experience has been focused on quality and administrative management issues, but I have always been attracted to the water field. I consider it a critical area where, as an environmental engineer, I can make a significant contribution. My goal is to strengthen the water treatment system in Colombia, something that I am passionate about and consider of great importance.”

The selection process included a face-to-face interview at the Turkish Embassy in Bogotá. After the results were published, Luisa Fernanda was informed that she had been selected to receive the full scholarship, which covers travel expenses, food, health insurance, and a monthly allowance. In addition, her current company, Gatria, offered her the possibility of remaining connected remotely during her studies, valuing the contribution she will be able to make with the knowledge acquired in the master’s degree.

“The journey has been full of learning. When you enter university, you have a preconceived idea, but the UCM and its program instill not only technical knowledge, but also values and human formation. That is why I consider that the UCM has been a solid foundation in my training. It was there where my interest in water treatment was born, an interest that today materializes with this scholarship, but that began in the university classrooms.”
