UCLA Study Reveals Declining Interest in On-Screen Romance and Sex Among Young People

A UCLA study found that young people’s interest in on-screen romance and sex is declining. This was reported by the IGN portal.

In total, 1.5 thousand people aged 10 to 24 years, representing generation Z or zoomers, took part in the survey. 51.5% of respondents said that they would like to see more friendly and platonic relationships between characters in media, rather than romantic and especially romantic relationships with sex.

According to 47.5%, sex is not necessary for the plot of most TV series and films. 44.3% believe romance is over-exploited in the entertainment industry. The researchers noted that the study confirms an “epidemic of loneliness” among Generation Z, whose members are having significantly less sex than their parents did at the same age.
