UCI tackles anyway: controversial rules around throwing away water bottles in race adjusted | Cycling

sport">The Swiss from AG2R – Citroën had just had bad luck when he threw one of his water bottles at a group of spectators during The round. He immediately realized his mistake because that did not happen according to the rules of the UCI, which had created demarcated waste zones this season. Schär was promptly taken off course, which led to a storm of criticism.

sport">The UCI has apparently listened to this and made the waste rules in the race less strict.

sport">In one day races, riders will only be taken off course for a second offense, for a first offense the culprit will be fined and a deduction of UCI points (5 to 25). In a stage race, an exclusion only follows after a third violation. Throwing away a water bottle (or anything else) a second time outside of a waste zone will result in a one minute time penalty.

sport">In short: throwing away water bottles is still not allowed, but it will not result in a new Schär case.
