Ubisoft shares a list of games that are also not backwards compatible with PS5, but withdraws notification again

When Sony recently made more clear about backwards compatibility on the PlayStation 5, it also shared a list of games that will not work on the next-gen console. It concerned only ten (smaller) titles, after which developers of two of those games indicated that they are working to make those games playable on the PlayStation 5.

It seemed to stick with that short list, but Ubisoft has caused quite a bit of confusion this weekend. The French studio indicated in a blog post that there are also a few games from Ubisoft that are not backwards compatible with the PlayStation 5. It would be the following titles:

  • Assassin’s Creed Syndicate
  • Assassin’s Creed Chronicles Trilogy Pack
  • Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India
  • Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China
  • Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia
  • Risk
  • Star Trek: Bridge Crew
  • Werewolves Within
  • Space Junkies

Ubisoft indicated in the message why these games would not work on the PlayStation 5. After all, the rest of the many games that Ubisoft has released over the past console generation will work and according to Ubisoft there are no exceptions with backwards compatibility on the Xbox Series X | S. In addition, it is also curious that Sony itself did not indicate anything about this and only mentioned ten games that are not backwards compatible.

What makes things even more confusing is that Ubisoft has since removed the blog post stating the games don’t work on the PlayStation 5. In response to Gematsu Ubisoft said it had removed the post due to possible “inaccuracies” regarding games playable on the PS5.

“We have pulled the Ubisoft Connect article and forum post regarding backwards compatibility for the time being as there may be inaccuracies involving the Ubisoft titles that will be playable on PS5.”

In short: it is all very confusing now and we do not know whether the aforementioned list of games are indeed not backwards compatible with the PlayStation 5. Let’s hope that Ubisoft will clarify this soon.
