Ubisoft: Pop-up ads in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey are the result of a technical error

On November 23, footage of pop-up advertisements during gameplay in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey appeared online. Players have encountered a notification about a 20% discount on Assassin’s Creed Mirage, for example, when opening an in-game card.

A Ubisoft representative commented for The Verge explained what happened. In a conversation with reporters, he said that this pop-up advertisement was the result of a technical error, which was eliminated as soon as it became known. The Ubisoft employee did not explain the essence of the error.

The Verge reporter Tom Warren doubts that the ad appeared in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey as a result of a mystical mistake. According to him, the developers themselves introduce such things into games. In addition, the “error” very conveniently surfaced during the sale.

In-game advertising appears to have been a limited experiment by Ubisoft that apparently ended in failure. Players online said such things were unacceptable.
